Internet Explorer Mobile 6 officialy announced

27 settembre 2008

He next, officially announced, big update for Windows Mobile will be – as Microsoft calls it – “6 on 6″, which is Internet Explorer Mobile 6 on Windows Mobile 6.1. The current Internet Explorer Mobile code, as it is used for today’s Windows Mobile devices and smartphones, is based on the pretty much outdated Internet Explorer 4.x, which was initially released back in September, 1997! The time of Windows 95 and Windows NT 4, when the World Wide Web was pretty young. So no question, it is time for an update! And while some called 6 on 6 vaporware already, even if Microsoft’s Andy Lees confirmed its upcoming release in our earlier interview, you can see bellow that it exists indeed as the the screenshots we recently received proves.

Detect Packet Errors in Your Network LAN Connection Status

27 settembre 2008

Today I am going to share with you a simple but useful tip for Windows which I’ve just learned. Many of us are already using fast broadband connection and this is fairly important to know when there is an error in sending or receiving packets. If there is always error in sending packets but none in receiving, most likely you have a bad network card.

Error information can be an important first step in troubleshooting a connection. You can view a network connection’s status, connection duration, speed, and packets sent and received for the connection by double-clicking the status icon on the system tray. You can also display the Status dialog box by double-clicking the connection’s icon in the Network And Dial-Up Networking folder. But the Status dialog box by default doesn’t display errors for the connection.

Before using sophisticated or tough to use packet sniffer to detect packet loss and error, you can just enable a hidden setting in Windows to show you errors in your connection. Here’s how to do it with a quick registry change and the information will be added to the status dialog box. Leggi il resto di questo articolo »

How add multiple languages on Windows Vista

25 settembre 2008

Multilingual User Interface (MUI) is the name of a Microsoft technology for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and other applications that allows for the installation of multiple interface languages on a single system. On a system with MUI, each user would be able to select his or her own preferred display language.

Up to Windows XP, MUI packs for a product are applied on top of an English version to provide a localized user experience. Windows Vista further advances MUI technology with support for single, language-neutral, language-independent binary files supporting multiple language skins, with the language-specific resources contained in separate binaries. The MUI architecture separates the language resources for the user interface from the binary code of the operating system. This separation makes it possible to change languages completely without changing the core binaries of Windows Vista, or to have multiple languages installed on the same computer with the same core binaries being used. Languages are applied as language packs containing the resources required to localize part of, or the entire, user interface in Windows Vista.
Change Vista Interface Language
If you bought a second hand computer that is in another language, you don’t need to worry about formatting the drive, reinstalling windows vista, looking for the vista installation disc and genuine product key. Just download and install the MUI language packs. However, there’s one small problem which is only Vista Ultimate and Vista Enterprise version can be installed and switched languages… Here is how you can bypass that restriction. Prevent accident application closing.

25 settembre 2008

Correctly shutting down a Windows computer is very important. One error that is common to new computer users is turning off the computer without saving your documents and closing the applications. They just turn off the power switch and that can be dangerous to your work and your hard drive!
No shutdown
To correctly shutdown a computer, click on the Start button, click Shut Down and then select Shut down from the list and click OK. However, there are times we want the computer to be turned on because some important programs are running. Here are a few example scenarios. If you use multiple desktops and VMWare, you wouldn’t want to shutdown while leaving the VMware session running in the background. You can also prevent the user from shutting down it’s PC while a backup is running and also prevent shutting down while Windows updates or service pack is installing.
